Shanghai attracted 4.6 billion US dollars’ worth of foreign investment during the first quarter this year. Pudong alone accounts for almost half of the total investment. 31 new foreign invested projects and companies moved into Shanghai in April. 13% of them are smart manufacturing companies. Carl Zeiss was ahead of the curve, moving its China headquarters to Pudong in 2013. Maximilian Foerst, President and Managing Director of Carl Zeiss, Greater China said that they’re much more looking at the business environment in Shanghai, which fits all needs and their strategy in the long term.

  今年第一季度，上海吸引外资46亿美元，其中浦东吸引的外资数额就占到近50%。今年四月，又有31个外商投资项目与外资公司落户上海，智能制造领域占比13%。卡尔蔡司集团早在2013年就已将其中国总部迁至上海浦东。蔡司大中华区总裁兼董事总经理福斯特表示，他们更看重的是营商环境，上海优质的营商环境恰好满足公司所需，与公司长期战略相契合。

  “We really go from how understanding the market, creating the opportunities, bringing our partners or manufacturing and R&D competence together to create new solutions for the Chinese market that actually also very much for global. We won't build a factory somewhere because someone is giving us a 5-year tax break or something like that. We're much more looking at what's the quality of the infrastructure, the environment, does it fit all needs and our strategy in the long term. And this is where actually, Shanghai really got.”
